Bupa Offices & Staff Accessibility Training

An exterior view from the street of one of Bupa's head offices.

Bupa commissioned a new, environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art HQ building, modifying the health care provider’s existing site to allow for more choice-based working. As part of the strategy, Direct Access was asked to undertake access consultancy and carry out an access appraisal of the proposed refurbishment plans at the BUPA premises at Angel Court in London.

BUPA is committed to achieving a high standard of physical, sensory, and cognitive & neurodiverse accessibility and inclusive design for the project and enlisted Direct Access to ensure that this goal is met.

Direct Access has also provided staff accessibility training for the health insurance provider, which is the most popular in the UK and ranked highly on the 2020 Forbes list of best employers.

Bupa’s head offices, including those in Manchester and Staines, were inspected for accessibility and inclusion and provided a detailed report and accessibility Action Plan which clearly identified areas for improvement. Moreover, recommendations were given which are expected to be implemented over the course of the next few years to make Bupa an even more inclusive place for disabled people to start a career with.

Health insurance represents 71% of Bupa’s revenues worldwide and 24.4 million of its customers. Bupa runs various health provision services for a further 19.2 million customers worldwide (21% of its revenue) including hospitals (primarily in Spain, Poland, and Chile), outpatient clinics, dental centers, and digital services.
