Direct Access is the Access Consultant for the upcoming modern and sustainable 146-home estate in Benwell, Newcastle.

In addition to ensuring the implementation of inclusive and accessible housing with J M Architects and Southern Green, Direct Access advised on the application of the estate’s planned sustainable interpretation of the traditional terrace street pattern, which will offer unique communal spaces that maximise views across the Tyne Valley.

Some of the environmentally friendly features that the estate will present include solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric car charge points – each of which will contribute to the eco-friendly and sustainable development of similar housing projects in the long term.

Utilising our understanding of best practice accessibility, our consultants ensured that the housing accommodations will be suitable for all people regardless of their disability, referring to The Equality Act 2010, Part M Building Regulations, Lifetime Homes Standards, and various other world-leading legislation to clearly outline how the architects must promote their residents’ independence and comfort across the delivery of the planning application, project development, and construction phases.

Direct Access carried out a full access consultancy service including design review, access statement, and Inclusive Design and Access Statements to support planning applications.
