Direct Access has provided Universal Design and accessibility consultancy services for the new International Organization for Migration Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Working with the Architectural and design teams at each of the concept, schematic, and developed design stages, Direct Access is integrating European and local Canton standards including SIA 500 relating to accessibility.

The development encompasses a 600-desk office complex and conference facility with associated landscaping, access routes, parking, and drop-off and pick-up areas  The facility will include:

  • Reception.
  • Seating and social areas.
  • Open plan office spaces, singular offices, and meeting rooms.
  • Unisex Accessible WC
  • Unisex WCs
  • Staff lockers and welfare facility.
  • Staff office and CCTV Room
  • Accessible parking and drop-off.
  • Level and stepped external access routes.

The IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration and to promote international cooperation on migration issues.

Direct Access worked closely with site architects to ensure that best practice accessible design is being applied throughout the construction process in full accordance with local legislation, ensuring that both staff and visitors will have their specific access requirements met.
