SpaMedica clinics and offices

Direct Access were the access consultants for several SpaMedica clinics and offices across England.

Initially working with the organisation in 2022 to improve physical accessibility in key areas of clinics – with recommendations focusing on components such as wayfinding, lighting, entrances, restrooms, intercoms, lifts, stairways, car parks, and reception areas, Direct Access then carried out an accessibility audit of the SpaMedica Head Office in Bolton.

Initial audits identified improvements at SpaMedica sites in Bristol, Kendal, Preston, Bedford, Kent, Leicester, Sheffield, Coventry, Wolverhampton, and Hull, though our auditing team have continued to recommend improvements to this day when visitor feedback has called for revisits. It is understood that SpaMedica are currently expanding their office, clinic and teaching spaces.

SpaMedica is a specialist ophthalmology services provider and is the largest provider of NHS cataract surgery in the UK. Across all their locations, they employee more than 1,900 employees across 55 hospitals, offering specialist cataract surgery, YAG capsulotomy and AMD treatments as a private healthcare provider.

As well as delivering access consultancy to maximise inclusion for all, Direct Access has also provided our hearing loop systems in key areas of SpaMedica clinics in Belfast and Preston – facilitating installations at clinic reception desks.
