White River Valley Middle School

Direct Access has worked with White River Valley Middle School, home to the Wildcats, undertaking facilities audits of teaching facilities. This covered both indoor academic spaces such as classrooms and internal and external athletics programs.

Other school facilities that Direct Access audited include all the school’s restrooms, the hallways, and the gym – ensuring that all aspects of the school meet and comply with ADA standards and are safe for all White River Valley students who utilize them.

The school is not just an education provider, facilities are used by the Vermont community, therefore our Education Access Consultants sought to go beyond legislation to create an inclusive learning environment that the whole community can access. It is part of the White River Valley Supervisory Union School District.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) works alongside two other key disability legislation, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The IDEA Act ensures students with a disability are provided with free appropriate public education that is tailored to their individual needs.

Where possible, children with disabilities are taught alongside their peers in the least restrictive environment (LRE) and supported through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that describes their special education and related services.
