North Reading, a town in Middlesex County and a northern outlying suburb of Boston, Massachusetts commissioned Direct Access to undertake the ADA Transition Plan for the town.
The ADA Transition Plan program includes the evaluation of all municipal programs and policies in addition to town communications (website to WCAG standards, the suitability of content and language used within) and employment policies (ADA Title I).
Reviews of communications with the general public involved assessments of the accessibility of the town’s online platforms, analyzing how inclusive and effective the content and choice of language used online is to people with various types of disability.
The facilities assessed and involved in the ADA Transition Plan included North Reading High School/Middle School, L.D. Batchelder Elementary School, J. Turner Hood Elementary School, E. Ethel Little Elementary School, and Hillview Golf Course.
Direct Access also undertook a full Public Right of Way (PROW) assessment of 80 miles of sidewalks.
