Steven\u00a0<\/strong>established\u00a0Direct Access<\/a>\u00a0in 2004, building it into the international\u00a0award-winning firm<\/a>\u00a0it is today.<\/span><\/p>

Born profoundly deaf and growing up with an acute awareness for disability-related issues, his early work included audit consultancy for the department chain John Lewis<\/a>, several local authorities, housing associations and education establishments from primary to universities.<\/span><\/p>

Steven was also the project lead for several major commissions including the\u00a0Science Museum Group<\/a>,\u00a0McArthur Glen<\/a>,\u00a0UNESCO<\/a>\u00a0World Heritage sites, the\u00a0Roman City of Bath<\/a>,\u00a0and the\u00a0Transport for London step-free programme<\/a>\u00a0for the 2012 Olympics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Steven was the Project Director for Universal Design at the world exposition\u00a0Expo 2020 Dubai<\/a>, then for the duration of the event became the Director of Accessibility. Most recently, he has led our accessibility consultancy project for COP-28 at Expo City.<\/span><\/p>

Since 2017, Steven has been the lead Access Consultant for railway operator\u00a0Avanti West Coast<\/a>. Steven was also part of the\u00a0audio-visual narration<\/a> for the Tokyo Paralympics. Steven is registered with the\u00a0National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC)<\/a>. In 2021, Steven was\u00a0awarded an MBE<\/a>\u00a0for services to International Trade in the\u00a0Queen\u2019s Birthday Honours list.<\/a><\/span><\/p>

In 2025, Steven was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts by the University of Brighton \u2014 the very place he studied architecture 30 years prior.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
